Instructions for grant applicants

The KTJS grant is personal and intended for full-time work on research, done either in or outside Finland. Grants can be applied for by Finnish citizens or persons working in Finland for cancer or heart disease research. Grants can be applied for by a private person, a team of researchers, or a community. The grant sum to apply for is unrestricted.

Appendices to applications and evaluation criteria
Applications must include a separate research plan and a CV. Applications are evaluated by experts based on topic relevance and the quality, content, schedule and feasibility of the research plan.

Funding decisions
Funding decisions are taken by the Foundation's Board on the basis of applications, expert opinions, and the Foundation's rules. The Foundation may award a smaller grant than applied for.

The Foundation informs the applicants of the grants awarded by email during the month following the application period. In addition, the awarded grants are published on the Foundation’s website.

Accepting a grant
The awarded grant must be accepted no later than in September of the year following the year when it was awarded, unless otherwise agreed with the Foundation. The recipient can make a separate request to use the grant later. If research schedule changes, the Foundation can extend the payment period by a maximum of two (2) years. If research is prevented, the grant must be returned to the Foundation.

Bank account information
Bank account information for grant payment must be submitted to the Foundation in a secure email message.

Reporting
Grant recipient must report on the use of the grant one (1) year after payment. With two- or three-year grants, the recipient must report on its use and their research results every 12 months. Use the interim report form during the project and the final report form at the end of the project. If the project ends within one (1) year of the grant being paid, one (final) report will suffice.

Documents and receipts
If the grant is not paid through a research institution, the Foundation will ask for the receipts of financial transactions at reporting. The grant recipient must keep all documents related to their expenses at least until the final report has been approved. It may be necessary to keep the documents for longer for the tax authority.
