Grants

Kirsti and Tor Johansson’s Heart and Cancer Foundation supports Finnish research to help treat heart disease and cancer. The Foundation seeks innovative projects and active researchers whose work contributes to the development of their respective medical fields. The Foundation also supports researchers who are in the early stages of their careers.

Grant application period

  • Grants for heart disease research can be applied for annually from 1 to 31 March.
  • Grants for cancer research can be applied for annually from 1 to 31 October. 
  • Applications can be submitted via online service during the application period.
  • We do not accept applications via postal service.
  • Residence can be applied for throughout the year.

Grants are awarded for:

  • Research done in a Finnish research institution.
  • The Foundation may also finance research done in a foreign research institution. 
  • Long-term funding of doctoral dissertation research (including other than finalizing).
  • Funding is normally granted for one (1) year, with a maximum of three (3) years as a discretional option.
  • The Foundation may finance reasonable expenses for conference proceedings related to heart disease or cancer research.

Grants are not awarded for:

  • Printing or publication costs.
  • Ggeneral administrative costs.
  • Costs of living.

No taxes are withheld from the grants. Separate provisions apply to th grants paid through research institutes. Read more here
